The Pavilion at the Nest

The Pavilion at the Nest, a certified outdoor classroom in Fairhope, AL, integrates architecture and landscape into a living laboratory for environmental education.  The Pavilion and landscape are the first phase of a master plan to expand an award-winning marine science laboratory for K-3 students into an educational enrichment campus for K-12 students, summer camps, professional education around project-based learning, and fundraising events for the Fairhope Educational Enrichment Foundation. 

Sherer Consulting Engineers, LLC served as the Mechanical Engineer-of-Record for the project and provided HVAC and Plumbing design and construction administration services, working as a consultant to Fairhope architecture firm, Watershed.  The sustainable plumbing design utilized two rainwater collection cisterns that provide supplemental water for toilet flushing and irrigation, and greywater filtration was implemented at the restroom lavatory drains for additional site irrigation.  This innovative project won a Merit award in October 2024 from AIA Alabama.
