Montgomery (JFHQ) Cooling Tower and Water Loop Repair - CxA

This project involved repairing the existing closed-loop cooling tower, which provides heat rejection for all water-source heat pump equipment serving the 190,000-square-foot Alabama Army National Guard headquarters facility in Montgomery, AL, which was certified LEED Gold after its construction in 2009. To increase energy efficiency, the 40-horsepower cooling tower fan motor was connected to a variable-frequency drive, and the tower’s control panel and various other parts were replaced.

The facility's hydronic water loop serving the existing water-source heat pump equipment was also repaired, flushed, and cleaned, with existing strainers replaced. This work was the first phase of future repairs to the existing HVAC equipment and systems serving the building. Sherer Consulting Engineers, LLC served as the lead Commissioning Authority for the project, working directly with the Owner and Project Architect.
