District-Wide Energy Conservation Upgrades for Lamar County Schools

In 2022, the Lamar County School District hired Trane to provide an Investment Grade Audit (IGA) and act as the energy services company to provide audit, design, implementation, financing options, and monitoring services necessary to achieve and maintain energy savings and other related facility needs and equipment upgrades.  The school facilities included in the project are as follows: Lamar Co. School-Technology (40,000 sf); Lamar Co. HS / Vernon Intermediate School (234,400 sf); Vernon Elementary (44,440 sf); Sulligent High School (82,635 sf); Sulligent Elementary (35,690 sf); and South Lamar K-12 School (190,146 sf). 

Sherer Consulting Engineers, LLC, working in collaboration with Trane, provided full energy modeling services utilizing Trane Trace 3D Plus software and also developed detailed scope narratives for each school during the IGA/schematic desigh phase.  After the energy upgrades scope was finalized and confirmed with the Owner, the project moved into the Construction Documents phase.  SCE served as the Prime A/E and Mechanical Engineer-of-Record for the project, and Mills-Conoly Engineering (Electrical) and LBYD (Structural) provided engineering design services as consultants to SCE.  

Final  construction documents were submitted and approved by the Alabama Dept. of Finance, Division of Construction Management (DCM) in November 2024, and construction officially began in December 2024, with Trane acting as the General Contractor & Owner's Construction Manager.  SCE is providing full Construction Administration (CA) services in compliance with the DCM Manual of Procedures, and constuction is expected to be complete at all school locations by Summer 2025.
