    Gulf Coast Center for Ecotourism & Sustainability

    This project involves a campus featuring resilient, eco-friendly facilities set within a restored coastal forest, offering both indoor and outdoor learning spaces. Guided by the principles of biophilia, the design aims to create memorable nature experiences for students, tourists, and local visitors. The project supports the growth of ecotourism and sustainable development in the Gulf region.


    ArchitectureWorks, based in Birmingham, AL, is the Architect of Record, while Watershed, located in Fairhope, AL, serves as the Local Architect and LEED Consultant.


    Sherer Consulting Engineers, LLC is the lead Commissioning Authority for the project, working directly for the City of Gulf Shores.  The project is undergoing enhanced commissioning as part of its LEED Gold (LEED v4) certification. The commissioning scope includes the Design Phase, Construction Phase, Acceptance Phase, and Post-Acceptance Phase commissioning for HVAC Systems, domestic solar water heating systems, rainwater harvesting, and lighting controls.
